About the Job

The Senior HR Director will lead the Regional HR team for Whole Foods Market HR in the Southern Pacific Region (So Cal; NV; AZ; HI). You will drive regional efforts on evolving the function and aligning with other regions with support from Global Support in Austin, TX. You'll also provide leadership and oversight to the Business Partner team. The Senior Director ensures effective partnering with teams and organizational leaders to develop people and related organizational strategies that integrate with and support business strategies, goals, and objectives. You'll oversee the provision of coaching and advice to leaders in support of building effective teams and addressing Team Member relations matters. You're responsible for consulting with company leaders on areas including organizational design, talent development, workforce planning, talent acquisition, rewards, training, leadership development, and performance management. You serve as the client face of TMS (Team Member Services is how we refer to HR), liaising with other TMS functions, including Recruiting, Talent Management, Learning & Development, Compensation, Benefits, HRIS, and Shared Services Operations to ensure effective and integrated support. Your team will consist of five direct reports and 40 indirect reports. Lastly, you'll work to ensure compliance with corporate policies and with government regulations and statutory requirements. This position is based in Glendale, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Involved in developing, modifying, and executing client-focused HR strategies with potential impact company-wide
  • Leads and oversees broad-based, and carefully integrated client-focused TMS projects
  • Provides advice and counsel to client leadership on the full range of TMS/ Human Resources concerns, issues
  • Engages with TMS departmental leadership to ensure TMS services are adapted, applied, and delivered in a manner that supports current and anticipated client business objectives
  • Leads cross-organizational efforts to identify and resolve systemic issues related to regulatory and corporate compliance
  • Influences global Business Partner’s strategic planning, ensuring integration and alignment of TMS functions, initiatives, and processes
  • Responsible for identifying, selecting, and negotiating with vendors /suppliers as required
  • Partners with legal and ER to support sensitive Team Member investigations
  • Identifies future needs and skill gaps within TMS as well as Leaders for supported organization(s); works with TMS and supported business leaders to develop talent management plans and address identified needs

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • BA/BS degree and 10 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • 6+ years HR leadership experience
  • Graduate degree and certification preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HR programs and processes, including Team Member Relations, Compensation, Benefits, Talent Development and Acquisition, Learning & Development, and HRIS
  • Comprehensive knowledge of retail food industry Human Resources objectives, challenges, and requirements in a multi-unit environment
  • Ability to engages with stakeholders to design, maintain, and champion the mission, vision, and strategy of the organization. Partner with senior-level stakeholders to define, clarify and resolve issues related to Business Partner’s objectives, processes, and outcomes
  • Engages with other leaders to formulate the organization’s long-term strategic direction
  • Business acumen to define, develop, educate, and implement initiatives to enhance Business Partner’s programs and processes
  • Ability to build deep, credible relationships with senior-level executives, both inside and outside current areas of responsibility
  • Develops and defines strategies and approaches to empower and equip leaders to be effective in their interactions with internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to shift comfortably between big picture strategic thinking and the tactics required to achieve outcomes
  • Identifies risks and vulnerabilities, root cause issues, and creates contingency plans
  • Plans, estimates, staffs, organizes, and monitors critical projects and activities
  • Conducts regular and ad-hoc reviews with team, stakeholders, partners, and customers
  • Oversees and advises other leaders on task and project-related issues and assists with overcoming barriers
  • Demonstrates a nuanced understanding of the WFM business, retail food industry, and the business models of key strategic partners and competitors
  • Able to assess how key functions, processes, and operating models impact business and financial performance delivering recommendations on how to optimize them
