Description

As a member of the Division’s leadership team, you will report directly to the Mill Manager. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the administration and progress of the Environmental, Health, and Safety program at the mill. In addition, this position will provide the safety and environmental leadership needed to achieve the desired safety-focused culture that produces a Safety and Compliant workplace.

Responsibilities include:

  • Providing primary technical safety and health support to the division while working in a team atmosphere to promote safety.
  • Works safely and follows safety rules and regulations and takes actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices. Reports unsafe working conditions and behaviors. Willing to be the proactive Safety Champion.
  • Develops and maintains safety and health programs, policies, and records in accordance with regulatory and company standards
  • Monitor safety and health regulations and provide technical support to plant personnel to ensure compliance with Federal and State safety and health regulations
  • Responsible for execution of site-specific training programs and process reviews including Process Hazard Analysis and Operator Training, to ensure effectiveness and compliance
  • Point of contact for risk management, conduct audits and manages a safety incident reporting system
  • Stewards the Environmental compliance program at the division and is the proactive environmental resource for the facility operations.
  • Interact with State and Federal Regulatory Agencies during inspections and thorough reporting in a timely and accurate manner to maintain compliance

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in either the Environmental Health or Safety fields. 
  • Education: Associate degree or equivalent education credentials in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or other relevant technical or engineering discipline
  • In lieu of a degree, a min of 3 years of experience and training provides knowledge of appropriate environmental, health and safety practices, principles, and procedures.
  • Computer skills: Basic proficiency in software applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to manage large databases.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Clearly communicate sensitive matters with management and maintain confidentiality. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, vendors, and contractors
  • Leadership Skills: Team building, motivational skills, coaching and mentoring, ability to influence others.
  • Ability to accommodate variable working hours including weekends
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing environment.  Must be able to work in a hot, dusty, humid, noisy mill environment around high-speed equipment.

Preferred skills

  • 3+ years of Environmental Health or Safety experience
  • Experience in wood products or other manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with water and air quality testing, certification
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Safety certifications: Associated Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP), ISO 14001, and/or OSHA certification preferred. CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
