General/Position Summary

The purpose of this job is to lead the development of scientific content for all prioritized global/international congresses.  With direction from the Director of Medical Communications, the lead will develop highly engaging and innovative scientific symposia and content for the medical booths (live and virtual).  For pipeline congresses, the Associate Director (in collaboration with cross-functional partners) will evaluate congress abstracts, provide scientific coverage for the meeting and co-lead the development of the daily and final reports.  The Associate Director will work closely with the regions to understand the needs and educational gaps of congress attendees to ensure the content is relevant. 

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Leads the development and execution of all scientific content for the medical booth (virtual and live) for global/international conference

  • Leads the development of all aspects of scientific symposia including consideration of style and approach of symposia, partnering with speakers on content development, execution of event and metrics/KPIs

  • Supports the Director of Pipeline Medical Communications for congress/abstract assessment, congress coverage, deliverables (daily and final report) and relevant communications

  • Develops scientific content that is innovative, relevant, strategically aligned and based on the needs of Vertex and the audience

  • Works closely with regional counterparts to ensure content is relevant to the educational needs of the congress attendees

  • Partners with country and regional legal/regulatory/compliance counterparts to ensure content is developed in accordance to country specific regulations/laws

  • Partners with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure an aligned approach to all aspects of congress development and execution including medical relations, commercial, corporate communications, clinical development and patient advocacy

  • Develops innovative analytics and feedback mechanisms that can be utilized across disease states

Required Education Level

  • Master's in Health Literacy OR Digital Literacy

  • OR MD, PHD, PharmD

Required Experience

  • 5-10 years experience in developing scientific content for congresses for international audiences

  • Experience in developing scientific congress content in multiple countries with different regulations and laws

  • Experience in developing innovative analytics and feedback mechanisms

  • Strong performer in a highly matrixed organization

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to manage multiple vendors if needed
