Athletics Communications Director or Associate Director
The University of Oklahoma Athletics Communications Office is accepting applications for the position of director or associate director. This is a full-time, 12-month renewable position with full University benefits. The successful applicant will be responsible for helping the department with coverage and publicity of the university's 21-sport varsity athletics program.
Responsibilities: Serve as the primary communications contact for an Oklahoma men's basketball program that has qualified for seven of the last eight NCAA Tournaments and features new head coach Porter Moser. Will also serve in a supervisory role with interns and student assistants. Create unique written content, features and releases, oversee/execute website and social media content, design media guides, compile statistics, arrange media interviews, conduct interviews, travel to select away events, etc. Will assist in all aspects of office activity and in coverage of other sports and events as required.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field and minimum of three years of full-time experience in collegiate/professional athletics communications. Experience as a lead basketball contact preferred.
Requirements: A strong graphic design background. Candidates must also possess effective writing, editing, computer, organizational, interpersonal, oral communication and mentoring skills. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign and NCAA LiveStats and Stat Crew software. A demonstrated ability to think creatively and engage a variety of stakeholders, particularly students and other on-campus groups. Able to work in a fast-paced environment that includes night and weekend hours.
Departmental Preferences: Daily experience working with coaching staffs and administrators. Knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance issues as they pertain to publicity and promotional efforts. Digital photography experience a plus.
