Position: Registered Nurse (RN) – Staff Nurse
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Patient Care Manager

Job Summary:
As a Staff Nurse, you will provide compassionate nursing care to terminally ill hospice patients and support their families through end-of-life care and bereavement. You will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary hospice team to ensure continuity and quality of care in patients’ homes and hospice offices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and reassess nursing needs of hospice patients regularly.
  • Provide hospice nursing services, treatments, and preventive procedures.
  • Initiate nursing procedures relevant to patient care and safety.
  • Observe and report changes in patients’ physical or emotional conditions to physicians and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Educate, supervise, and counsel patients and their families regarding care.
  • Supervise and train nursing service personnel including hospice aides.
  • Develop and update patient/family care plans with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Participate in team conferences and maintain required patient records.
  • Follow hospice policies, maintain confidentiality, and comply with HIPAA.
  • Participate in on-call coverage as needed.
  • Maintain professional skills and knowledge through ongoing education.

Work Environment:

  • Travel to patient homes and work within the hospice office.
  • Exposure to physical demands includes lifting, walking, and exposure to various environmental conditions.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Degree from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state.
  • Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred; recent patient contact within last 3 years preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical judgments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cope with emotional stress.
  • Ability to supervise nursing staff and respond to crises outside hospital settings.
  • Completion of hospice training program required (or willingness to complete).
  • Physical capability to perform essential duties, including lifting patients up to 100 pounds and tolerating exposure to elements like odors, blood, and body fluids.
  • Must provide annual TB test and other state-required health screenings.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to adapt to diverse social, racial, cultural, and religious backgrounds.
