COVID Supplemental Staff Nurse
About the Job
The COVID Supplemental Staff Nurse (SSN) will provide supplemental nursing coverage for COVID testing and symptom screening. The Supplemental Staff Nurse will act as a patient/family advocate, she/he seeks opportunities to communicate and coordinate patient care activities and employee testing throughout the continuum in collaboration with other members of the Health Care Team. The position is not a direct patient care position.
Nurses in this position will work fewer than 20 hours per week and fewer than 1,000 hours in a 12-month aggregate period
1. COVID Specific responsibilities as below:
a) Screening patients, families, and visitors at the entrances to the facility
b) COVID testing of asymptomatic employees via nasopharyngeal, oropharyngeal, or mid-turbinate routes
c) Administrative tasks such as: printing, computer entry, labeling, etc
2. Patient Safety/Environmental Responsibilities – Maintain a safe, clean environment for patient/team members.
a) Adheres to infection control policies/universal precautions.
b) Educate patient/family, team members on infection control policies.
c) Enforce infection control policies in public areas.
d) Perform routine duties, keeping work areas neat and orderly.
e) Utilize proper body mechanics.
f) Assure that COVID testing/screening areas are appropriately stocked with all necessary supplies and equipment in good working order.
3. Employee Responsibilities – Comply with all departmental and hospital regulations.
a) Review and comply with sick, unscheduled vacation, tardiness and clocking in and out policies.
b) Participate in performance improvement.
c) Attend and participate in staff meetings or read and is responsible for information in minutes.
d) Use feedback to make appropriate and consistent changes in job skills and behavior.
e) Participate in research projects related to COVID testing.
f) Excellent communication skills.
g) Attend appropriate in-services.
h) Basic competencies and mandatory training.
i) Unit-specific competencies.
4. Performs other related duties as assigned in order to meet the goals of the department and institution.
5. Institution guarantees no minimum hours, nor is there an organization commitment to ongoing employment post pandemic
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required. RN required.
New Graduates of a school of nursing are encouraged to apply.
Must possess a current Tennessee State Board of Nursing license if primary residence is Tennessee or a Nurse Licensure non-Compact state.
Must possess a current State Board of Nursing license in the state of primary residence if the state is a Nurse Licensure Compact state
