Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia is hiring a Registered Nurse for the inpatient Spine Center.
Hours/Shift: Full Time Night Shift

The Spine Center is a specialized neurosurgical unit that provides comprehensive care to patients that have undergone elective back and neck procedures. In addition to our spine population, there is opportunity to care for a variety of neurosurgical conditions.
The 18 bed surgical unit along with the interdisciplinary team provides post-operative care, pain management, therapy treatment, and education to ensure a smooth and fast recovery. Our priority is to get patients back to their favorite activities as soon as possible.

This team-oriented unit also offers self- scheduling to support work life balance. We provide specialized training through our comprehensive Spine Orientation Series (SOS). Here you will be
provided the opportunity to learn and grow within the specialty. We aim for a nurse to patient ratio of 1:5.

The Registered Nursing (RN) is responsible to perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process. The standards of practice (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care- teaching and health promotion and evaluation) along with the standards of professional performance (ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence- based practice /nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health) encompass the actions and foundation of professional nursing. The RN possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas.

New Hire Education Requirement: All Registered Nurses who do not have their BSN will be required to sign a BSN Agreement committing to successfully obtain their BSN within 5 years of hire. BSN or MSN preferred. Meets and maintains any requirements defined by specific specialty; Critical Care/IMCU/EP/Advanced Heart Failure Center/SMG Cardiology Practices- ACLS within 1 year of hire; Emergency Care - ACLS & PALS or ENPC within 1 year of hire; de-escalation and physical intervention training within 90 days of hire.For designated Oncology units, Oncology Care ONS/ONCC or Sentara approved course Chemotherapy & Biotherapy Provider Card within 6 months of hire. Women's Care - Perinatal departments; NRP within 6 months of hire. Behavioral Health - De-escalation and physical intervention training within 15 days of hire.Inpatient Pediatrics. PALS within 6 months of hire. All Direct Care RN's required to have BLS within 90 days of hire.
