Pay Range: $22.50 - $22.50 per hour

Job Overview: The Autopsy Technician plays a crucial role in assisting Pathologists and Medical Examiners during autopsies and external examinations,

This position involves a variety of complex tasks, including the collection and labeling of evidentiary materials, maintaining instruments and supplies, and ensuring the overall appearance of the morgue.

The technician must possess a working knowledge of anatomy and the ability to handle the psychological aspects of the job, while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to biohazard measures.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Knowledge of anatomy as applied to performing autopsies
  • Ability to physically perform job functions, including lifting and moving decedents

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Per Diem
  • Day Shift

Essential Functions:

  • Assist Pathologists and Medical Examiners with autopsies and external examinations.
  • Collect and label evidentiary materials including toxicology and laboratory samples
  • Maintain instruments, formalin, solutions, containers, equipment, and supplies for autopsies
  • Set up supplies and equipment for use during autopsies.
  • Weigh and measure bodies, maintaining the overall appearance of the morgue
  • Take muscle, skin, bone, and tissue samples for later use.
  • Handle contaminated specimens and biological hazardous waste appropriately.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with hospital staff, law enforcement, and funeral directors.
  • Assist with evisceration, dissection, and restoration of the body during postmortem examinations.
