The Life of an HCA Nurse


Under the general direction of the Director of Neurosciences, serves the nursing needs of acute stroke patients by providing direct patient care; educating patients, families and staff; and acting as a consultant in acute stroke assessment and treatment. Direct patient care duties include assisting with monitoring patients after thrombolytic therapy, assisting with frequent vital sign and neuro checks on stroke units and handoff report of acute stroke patients post interventional procedures. Registered Nurse will also be responsible for the accurate and timely collection of clinical data, data display for the purposes of the Stroke program. Data will need to be entered into one database, Get With The Guidelines for primary and comprehensive measures. Registered Nurse will work closely with the program’s Stroke Coordinator and quality department in data collection, interpretation and practice implementation. The Stroke RN will also attend multidisciplinary rounds, code strokes, and various stroke meetings.








  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required. 
  • Current Missouri RN licensure required.  Current certification in stroke and neurosciences preferred.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.  Current ACLS and BCLS certification required.
  • Basic equipment and machine skills preferred
  • Two years stroke/neurosciences experience preferred
