Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking Welder (Tech II) to join the United States Postal Service Central Repair Facility contract. This position will be located in Topeka, KS.
GENERAL:
- Applies comprehensive knowledge of welding processes to determine layouts and weld parts and assemblies.
SPECIFICS:
- Performs welding processes on aluminum and steel parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding materials and metal alloys.
- Determines layouts and welds parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications.
- Receives technical guidance, as required, from supervisor or higher level technician and work is reviewed for specific compliance with accepted practices and work assignments.
- Resolves routine questions and problems, and refers more complex questions to higher levels.
- Fabricates piece parts using blueprints, sketches, hand tools, welding equipment, stick and wire feed, metal working machines, and measuring equipment.
- May operate metal working machinery to fabricate components, housings, fittings, jigs and fixtures, and verifies dimensions using micrometers and calipers.
- Determines proper feeds, speeds, and operation sequence, or selects those prescribed in drawings, blueprints, or layouts using welding equipment, AC/DC, MIG/TIG.
- Specializes in welding of metal materials.
- Work involves fitting and assembling parts to prescribed tolerances and allowances.
- May assists in fabrication of various components.
- Performs other related tasks as required.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent with two years related experience.
- Formal welding training from an accredited program or equivalent military training, or a minimum of two years verifiable work history experience in fabrication may be used in lieu of education.
- Knowledge and ability to plan, perform, and operate welding equipment
- Ability to read schematics and blueprints as they relate to welding
- Knowledge and ability to select proper welding equipment and materials
- Ability to identify and analyze metal alloys
- Proficiency in using precision measuring equipment
- Ability to identify and analyze metal alloys
- Knowledge of the different gasses and combination of gasses and their applications for welding
- Operate plasma cutter, oxygen and acetylene torch
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Sensitive Security Clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- TIG Welding Certification
- Aluminum TIG Welding
- Stainless Steel TIG Welding
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Heavy work. Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical activity may include kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motion. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal. Visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection). The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current. Worker must pass and comply with CRF respirator program and policy.
