Responsibilities

NASAs Sounding Rocket Operations Contract (NSROC) is a sub-orbital space flight program located at NASAs Wallops Flight Facility (WFF), a part of NASAs Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). NSROC provides suborbital launch vehicles, payload development and field operations support to NASAs Science Mission Directorate. The program enables the collection of Earth,Heliophysicsand Astrophysics science.

The Safety and Mission Assurance team member for the NASA Sounding Rocket Contract (NSROC). Provide auditing support to the internal ISO and occupational safety audit program. Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 is a plus. Will support Sounding Rocket mission hazardous operations as a NASA Certified Operational Safety Specialist (OSS).

May supervise the work of other team members and act in a lead role of a project team.Ensures that quality control procedures adequately evaluate products. Determines if current methods and techniques result in meeting reliability standards or require modification. Develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product.

Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.

Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements.

May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.


Qualifications

Bachelors degree with two or more years of experience. Six years of experience in lieu of degree.

  • Knowledge of standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation of electronic and mechanical components, tolerance requirements for machine shop products, and acceptance criteria for soldered and welded joints.
  • Understanding of electronics acceptance testing requirements, component and launch vehicle assembly procedures, and launch vehicle inspection requirements.
  • Must have technical writing, communication and problem solving skills.

Certifications and training will be required for;

  • NASA Operational Safety Specialist in Sounding Rockets for Ordnance, Mechanical, Lifting, Pressure, Chemical and Cryogenics.
  • Electrostatic Discharge ESD Control per GSFC-GPR8730.6 or NASA- STD-8739.7
  • Confined Space Entry
  • Occupational/Industrial Safety
  • Others as required

Requires 2 to 5 years with BS/BA or 0 to 2 years with MS/MA/MBA or 8 to 10 years with no degree.

Colorado Salary Minimum: $51,480.00
Colorado Salary Maximum:$110,052.80
