  • Job Summary
    • Patrols hospital property, responds to calls for assistance, and reports on conditions, objects or persons which may impact the security and/or safety of patients, associates, physicians, visitors, or vendors, and responds according to established policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Training
      • High School graduation or equivalent.

    • Experience
      • 2 years of related public safety/healthcare or hospitality security experience.
    •  
    • License/Certification/Registration
      • Valid drivers license in the State of Maryland.
    •  
    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Conducts foot security patrols of hospital buildings and grounds, as required. Observes and monitors conditions, objects, or persons which might require police action. Controls access to and inspects packages of those leaving buildings. Reports all safety, security, and law violations.
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Immediately responds to emergencies to provide necessary assistance to employees and customers.
    • May be required to patrol the hospital campus/grounds via security motor vehicle or bicycle.
    • May fill in for PSO I as needed.
    • Monitors security and appearance of lobbies, waiting areas, elevators, and entrances.
    • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Prepares and submits reports and logs of all incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
    • Proficient in and utilizes nonviolent crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to ensure staff, patients, visitors and all others remain safe, calm and respected while onsite.
    • Provides assistance for way-finding, parking, deliveries and other requested information for the hospital and MedStar affiliates.
    • Responds to security and medical code calls. Investigates incidents and accidents. Gathers information and evidence. Notifies appropriate authorities or superiors and calls for back-up assistance as necessary.
    • Testifies at legal proceedings, hearings and trials.
    • Works cross-functionally to ensure safe and secure environments.
    • Assists in restraints under clinical supervision and direction.
