MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is actively recruiting for an experienced Nurse (RN) to join our renowned team! 

  • Job Summary
    • Deliver care to patients utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation, in accordance with established hospital standards.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Experience
      • Graduate of an accredited nursing program, BSN preferred
    • License/Certification/Registration
      • Current Maryland and compact nursing license, and in good standing with the Maryland Board of Nursing
      • Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS
      • Obtain CPI and Base Station Certification within 6 months of hire

      • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
      • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

      • Ability to communicate effectively across all disciplines intra and interdepartmental to improve patient outcomes.
      • Ability to coordinate unit operations with other departments/disciplines to provide effective and efficient care.
      • Knowledge, skill, and ability to use appropriately all emergency department equipment utilized in patient care area.
      • Knowledge, skill and abilities to correctly perform all appropriate nursing and hospital competencies.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Collects current symptoms, as well as a detailed patient history and then consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
    • Performs triage, while considering both physical and psychosocial elements.
    • Manages basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, based upon nursing standards and protocol.
    • Initiates appropriate procedure when identifies equipment malfunctions.
    • Records patients’ vital signs as indicated.
    • Works collaboratively with physicians, assisting them during exams, diagnostic testing and treatments.
    • Prepares, administers and records prescribed medications.
    • Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse.
    • Initiates IV’s.
    • Cleans and bandages wounds.
    • Provides basic, bedside care.
    • Maintains proper supplies and appropriate medical equipment to care for patients.
    • Reports any suspected abuse to the appropriate agencies.
    • Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician.  Teach patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation.
    • Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
    • Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format in the electronic medical record (EMR).
    • Performs other position related duties as assigned.
