  • Job Summary
    • Performs 2D and M-mode echocardiograms.  Participates in Tran esophageal echocardiograms, as well as stress and contrast echocardiograms.  Can also perform exercise testing when needed.  Participates in continuing education to ensure professional and personal growth.  Ensures that procedures are of the best quality and are carried out in an expeditious manner; directs finished reports to appropriate destinations; assists with all other testing done in the department.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Experience
      • Associates Degree from an acceptable ultrasound school
      • 3 -5 years working experience as Echo cardiographer in a healthcare environment.

      • Current Certification in echocardiography

      • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
      • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

      • Wear identification badge at all times while on duty.
      • Knowledge, skill and ability to utilize correctly Echocardiography machines, TEE scopes, Computers and Tannenberg.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Maintains a system where echocardiograms being done can be reviewed by the consulting cardiologist during his/her allotted time for rapid interpretation.
    • Coordinates with the System Administrator, as well as fellow echo cardiologists, to ensure that there is necessary 24/7 personnel coverage.
    • Performs bench work, which may include measuring and mounting of echocardiograms, training new personnel to increase skills and knowledge of departmental procedures.
    • Performs various departmental procedures to include echocardiograms, holter application/scanning, treadmill testing and EKG’s.
    • Maintains and submits required data for Quality Assurance as well as ICAEL.
    • Assumes other responsibilities and duties that relate to patient care as required.
    • Available for call on a monthly rotational basis.
    • Consults with and keeps supervisor informed of activities, needs and problems in assigned areas.
    • Participates in departmental staff meetings.
    • Maintain requirements for hospital/departmental competencies.
    • Performs duties as assigned by the Director or Medical Directors.
