MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center is actively recruiting for an experienced Director of Women's Services to join our renowned team! 

 

 
  • Job Summary
    • The Director assumes responsibility and accountability for nursing care for Women’s Services to include Labor & Delivery, Antepartum, Postpartum, Nursery, and Neonatal Intensive Care.  They will provide leadership, management and direction to continually improve the profession of nursing and patient care outcomes.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Experience
      • Master’s degree in nursing or a  related field required
      • Minimum of five years experience in a specialty with at least two years in an acute care setting performing management or supervisory position.
      • Prefer over 8 years of progressive nursing management.

    • License/Certification/Registration
      • Certification by a recognized accreditation body in specialty within one year of hire.
      • Current Maryland RN License

      • Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for MedStar Southern Maryland Hospital Center.
      • Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Provides Clinical and Compliance guidance to Women’s Services staff according to state and federal laws and regulatory requirements governing patient care.
    • Achieves operational goals through influence and expert change management skills.
    • Complete associate performance evaluations on time.
    • Conducts meaningful performance planning and review with associates as demonstrated by a developmental approach to involve the associates in resolving discrepancies and being engaged in their professional development.
    • Resolves patient, family/visitor, and associate complaints in a timely manner.
    • Adapts to multiple and changing priorities.
    • Maintains current knowledge of principles and practices relevant to clinical nursing specialty practice.
    • Assumes responsibility for meeting organizational goals for associates and patient satisfaction and other regulatory measures related to patient outcomes.
    • Greets every customer with a smile, welcome them promptly with direct eye contact, and introduces self by name and title and explains plan of care.
    • Customers needs always comes first so must be able to anticipate, listen and respond to their needs.
    • Display ability to reverse negative outcomes by effectively utilizing customer service recovery skills when necessary.
    • Adheres to the established organizational confidentiality guidelines.  Obtains confidential information only when it is required for the performance of the job.
    • Ensures customers the right to privacy and modesty by creating and maintaining a secure and trusting environment.
    • Coaches and provides feedback to associates to ensure consistency.
    • Practices and requires associates to demonstrate their daily commitment to Service Excellence.
    • Creates reviews and revises all departmental policies, procedures and practices as needed.
    • Ensures practice standards reflect evidence-based practice and are maintained and followed.
    • Is prepared for emergencies and knows the correct and prompt actions to take in accordance with hospital policies and procedures.
    • Represents nursing and assigned patient care areas during accreditation Joint Commission reviews.
    • Assesses current associate education structure and processes with the departments and provides the best practices for implementation to include associate education and competencies.
    • Develops, implements, and evaluates performance improvement plans related to patient outcomes and monitors and improves patient satisfaction.
    • Develops presentations, projects, work plans, timelines and milestones.
    • Manages clinical documentation, reporting and analysis related to patient care delivery.
    • Facilitates sharing ideas, strategies, and tactics to achieve departmental facility targets.
    • Collaborates with Nurse Leaders on successful completion of all initiatives.
    • Assumes responsibility for measuring, tracking, monitoring, and reporting initiatives.
    • Assesses patient and associate needs and services to identify trends and opportunities to advance the hospital’s market position, ensuring high quality and safe patient care.
    • Reports relevant information regarding patient care and departmental operations to the Chief Nursing Officer and applicable healthcare team members as needed.
    • Ensures associates have awareness of the safety and quality goals of the organization.
    • Ensures provision of cost-effective and efficient patient care services by preparing and monitoring departmental budgets and assumes responsibility for meeting stated financial goals while achieving quality and service excellence goals.
    • Participates in decision-making associated with the purchase of clinical supplies, patient care equipment and computerized technologies.
    • Performs general supervisory and managerial function, including staffing, performance assessment, associate development, associate discipline and communication.
    • Utilizes financial performance indicators to monitor departmental performance and operational goals.
    • Maintains productivity levels for all areas ensuring that quality of service provided meets hospital established standards and clinical outcomes.
    • Evaluates and organizes staff driven data for use in developing staffing guidelines and forecasting staffing needs.
