In collaboration with the physician executive director and assistant vice president, responsible for the business and operations management of the Washington and Southern Maryland anesthesiology practices. Oversees the revenue cycle processes and operations, compliance and coding for MMG Anesthesiology. Serves as day to day oversight for professional billing services across MMG Anesthesiology and line authority for administrative and operations staff in the Washington and Southern Maryland regions of MMGAMMG Anesthesiology.

Master’s Degree in business or related field.

Experience

3 years experience as an anesthesiology business or practice manager or 5 years management experience, preferable in hospital or other health care setting.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of health care funding and reimbursement procedures and issues.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
-
Assesses reimbursement trends and develops strategies to address areas of opportunity.
-
Assists in process to review, edit and monitor all research grants involving clinical and non-clinical research applications.

Assists in process with Chairs and Chiefs to process academic appointments.
-
Develops and implements departmental billing compliance plan in conjunction with organization’s strategic plan. Conducts regular audits as appropriate.

Develops and monitors University budgets, for each faculty member in all Anesthesiology Divisions, in collaboration with Director of Finance.

Develops department goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for Washington and Southern Maryland regions, in collaboration with the AVP.

Develops, implements and oversees strategies for reducing overtime, external locums and uncovered shifts, in collaboration with AVP, Department Chairs and Administrators in Washington and Southern Maryland regions.

Ensures appropriate and compliant documentation by providers to ensure maximum revenue generation, via provider education and ongoing audits. In conjunction with MMG Anesthesiology leadership, develops methodologies to increase revenue generation within the guidelines of CMS and governing entities.

Ensures compliance with hospital/facility policies and procedures as well as governmental and accreditation regulations.

Ensures MMG Anesthesiology billing methodologies and provider documentation are in compliance with CMS and applicable Federal regulations.

Has responsibility for business operations of the anesthesia practices in the hospitals and outpatient anesthesiology sites in the Washington and Southern Maryland regions.

Has working knowledge of Federal regulations concerning anesthesiology practice billing and collection activities.

Is responsible for business operations component of revenue cycle management and oversight of physician education for coding and documentation to support professional component billing across MMG Anesthesiology.

Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents MMG Anesthesiology as appropriate.

Participates in the annual budget process and monthly financial close process as it relates to professional revenue, in collaboration with MMGA Leadership and Director of Finance.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Provides oversight and input into efficient, effective and accurate professional billing operations. Maintains charge description master and ensures quarterly updates are completed and in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Reviews and makes recommendations regarding staffing plans in the Washington and Southern Maryland regions including additional staffing requests, in collaboration with MMGA Leadership.

Supervises and manages the business staff related to operations of MMG Anesthesiology in the Washington and Southern Maryland regions.
