  • Job Summary
    • Transports patients to and from patient care areas.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Training
      • High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
    • Experience
      • None, but three months transporter experience preferred.
    • License/Certification/Registration
      • CPR certification preferred.
    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Good verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Demonstrates proficiency using the transport tracking system. Adheres to appropriate benchmarks designated by policy.
    • Ensures patient safety and comfort, assists patients when needed, cleans and redresses patient when needed, and ensures patient's bedding is neat and appropriate.
    • Maintains supply of wheelchairs and stretcher at designated areas by rounding up equipment as needed. Reports malfunctioning or safety hazards of transport equipment.
    • Observes patient's general conditions when patient is in their care. Observes proper condition of patient's IV, urine retention bags, oxygen, chest tubes and other medical devices while patient is in transit. Notifies nursing personnel of any difficulties.
    • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Problem-solves issues as needed. Collaborates with supervisors to ensure safe and timely transports and provides feedback on transport protocols/issues, as appropriate.
    • Provides relief coverage when necessary to ensure continuity of service.
    • Transports patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support department areas as directed. Notifies nursing unit personnel on departure and return of patients being transported according to department standard. Assures patient safety and comfort, assists patients when needed, cleans and redresses patient when needed. Maintains appropriate isolation techniques when handling isolation patients. Assists clinical personnel in transferring patient to or from beds, chairs, wheelchairs or stretchers.
