Job Summary

Responsible for coordinating all technical, logistical, andadministrative functions to ensure prompt and accurate testing and reporting ofresults for clinical laboratory samples within established timeframes.

Minimum Qualifications
-
Education/Experience
-
Bachelor Degree in medical technology, histology, clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science is required.
-
5 years of experience in an appropriate clinical laboratory setting, including histology and anatomic pathology.

Demonstrated supervisory or management experience is required.

License/Certification/Registration
-
HT or HTL (ASCP) certification preferred. ASCP certification or equivalent acceptable with prior extensive histology experience.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Ability to comprehend and follow the policies and procedures for Southern Maryland Hospital Center.

Ability to read, write and speak or communicate in English to successfully accomplish the essential duties of the position.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
-
Provide oversight for routine histology functions inclusive of processing, embedding, microtome, and staining.
-
Oversee daily routine laboratory operations on each shift to ensure that quality standards and turnaround time are met.

Maintain quality control standards within guidelines.

Perform personnel performance reviews and coaching.
-
Responsible for scheduling employees.

Maintain established performance and production standards.
-
Monitor test analysis and specimen examination to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance are maintained.

Writes and reviews validation protocols, policies and procedures for manual, automatedand new testing procedures.

Assures that all remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

Ensures that patient test results are not reported until all corrective actions have been taken and the test system is functioning properly.

Coordinate workflow on a daily basis to ensure timely analysis, reporting of patient samples, and handling the daily/weekly/monthly scheduling, including lab rotations.

Regulate an all Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Inspection (QI)/Quality Control (QC) to ensure laboratory standards and regulations are maintained.

Ensure lab has adequate inventories of reagents and supplies.

Assist with the selection, training, and performance evaluation of lab team.
