Job Summary
- Communicates with patients, families, physicians, quality review and insurance companies to obtaininformation and insurance verification through electronic verification system and to assure quality patient careand collection of co pays, deductibles if applicable. Interviews and registers patients. Provides otherregistration support as required.
- Minimum Qualifications
- Education/Training
- High school graduation or equivalent; knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Experience
- 1 year related experience.
- License/Certification/Registration
- No special certification, registration or license required.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner. Working knowledge anduse of equipment used. Basic computer skills. Excellent customer service skills. Professional and courteousbehavior to ensure a positive image within the community served and to promote customer satisfaction. Abilityto work effectively within a team. Verbal and written communication skills.
- Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Attends and participates in staff or other work related meetings as required.
- Collects all deposits, deductibles, copays or self-pay portions as applicable. Accurate documentation isrequired at 100%. Adheres to the MedStar Health Financial Assistance Policy and Procedures. Followsestablished Cash Reconciliation policy guidelines.
- Confirms insurance coverage. Obtains authorizations by utilizing online electronic verification system, or otherresources, such as, HDX, EVS or Blueline.
- Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to departmentpolicies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditationregulations.
- Ensures that all necessary questionnaires and specific forms are completed according to predeterminedrequirements by government or regulatory agencies or hospital policies. Completes ABN process throughregistration system as needed, explains to patient as required.
- Explains regulatory financial requirements to the patient or responsible party. Complies with Marylandreimbursement and regulatory requirements and state regulations regarding insurance. Completes MSPquestionnaire, Medicare letter to inpatients. HIPAA regulations strictly adhered to.
- Interviews patients, families, or outside sources to obtain complete and accurate demographic and financialinformation and inputs data into system for registration, billing, and patient tracking. Performs scanning functions.
- Maintains flexibility in all registration areas including bed control and clerical support.
- Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Working knowledge of insurances, third party payors, health spending accounts. Understands and can applyinformation on Managed Care Matrix. Utilizes managed care Handbook for contracted services to facility or ifservice is carved out.
