Job Summary
  • Coordinates the recruitment and retention functions for nursing positions at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education/Training:BA/BS required. BSN highly preferred.
  • Experience:A minimum of three to five years of related experience, preferably in a academic Hospital or Medical Center setting.

  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:Excellent oral and written communications skills. Good knowledge of recruitment and equal employment opportunity practices and theories. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees and the public. Ability to think abstractly and analytically; knowledge of organizational staffing in either a hospital or university setting and broad understanding of human resource principles, including basic knowledge of compensation. Ability to design, implement, and communicate human resources programs and initiatives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Actively manages the recruitment and retention employment function. This includes creation and implementation of a media plan, utilization of innovative methods to attract nursing candidates, making interviewing and hiring recommendations to hiring managers, extending offers of employment to candidates using compensation guidelines, and ensuring necessary pre-employment processing, background checks, references, drug screens, health clearance, reference checks, and documentation, including licensure, complies with MGUH policies and regulatory requirements. Regularly identifies problems or obstacles to hiring and makes proactive recommendations for resolution
  • Consults with client departments to provide appropriate assessment and implementation of recruitment strategies designed to meet their specific recruitment and staffing needs.
  • Prepares and places advertisements in regional and national newspapers, websites, journals, and magazines. Coordinates and participates in job fairs, career days, and open house opportunities for applicants.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs promotional approaches and programs to promote professional nursing practice at MGUH to enhance retention and maintain Magnet Status for the division of nursing.
  • Collaborates with the GU School of Nursing and Health Professions and other universities and schools in strengthening relationships between the division of nursing and nursing educational programs.
  • Organizes and supports the Georgetown University Hospital Academy of Nursing. Plans events, coordinates membership, acts as liaison with schools of nursing.
  • Manages, promotes and recruits candidates for the Georgetown University Clinical Scholar Program.
  • Provides leadership support to the Magnet Champions.
  • Conducts state and nationwide surveys for current market trends in Nursing and Nursing Administration.
  • Assists in determining appropriate changes to the employment requisition, recruitment, and posting processes, in collaboration with the AVP, Operations Support, Nurse Recruitment and senior human resources and nursing management personnel.
  • Develops policies and procedures in accordance with the nursing department. Create data collection tools, and formats, to systematize and present vacancy reports and nurse recruitment and retention initiatives.
  • Stays informed about health care and nursing trends and issues, as well as issues concerning nurses in the hospital, and assist in creating solutions.
  • Conducts exit interviews. Evaluates turnover statistics and identifies retention issues. Create and implement retention initiatives including recognition programs, bonuses, and other types of awards.
  • Develops recruiting contacts with employment agencies and placement offices.
  • Serves as nursing resource/liaison regarding nursing resource planning and transfers.
  • Utilizes available HRIS tools to consult with client departments in resolution of departmental issues.
