General Summary of Position:

The incumbent in this position is responsible for surveillance and reporting of nosocomial infections as well as critically observing and recommending appropriate infection control measures. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital’s philosophy, policies, procedures and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Nursing or a Related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • If R.N., current D. C. licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse required.
  • Certification in Infection Control preferred.
  • One to three years experience as an Infection Control Practitioner preferred.
  • Two years experience in a hospital, public health, laboratory or infectious disease setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Use of computer and other general office equipment.
  • Knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) standards, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Law on Bloodborne Pathogens, and D.C. Title 8 requirements.
  • Must have excellent communication (written and verbal) skills.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
