  • Job Summary
    • Provides one-on-one observation of selected patients for the purpose of identifying behaviors which are potentially hazardous to self or others. Provides direct bedside care to the patient under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    •  
       
      Education/Training
      • Completion of an approved nursing assistant certification program; high school graduation or equivalent preferred.
    •  
    • Experience
      • 3 months related experience preferred.
    •  
    • License/Certification/Registration
      • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or GNA (Geriatric Nursing Assistant) certification bythe Maryland Board of Nursing. BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
    •  
    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Basic math skills. Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills.
 
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Assists patients with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, skin care, positioning, ambulation, toileting, and range of motion activities.
    • Assists with environmental services support such as linen management, trash removal, and cleaning patient rooms as needed.
    • Communicates changes in the patient condition to the licensed nurse.
    • Communicates with patients and encourages casual patient verbalization. Participates in minor diversion activities, such as reading to the patient.
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality.
    • Obtains data and accurately documents pertinent patient information.
    • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
    • Performs direct observation of patients for the purpose of identification of behaviors that are potentially hazardous to self or others and reports such observations to appropriate personnel in appropriate time frame.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Provides and documents nutritional support for patients.
    • Reports actual and potential problems concerning patients, families, staff and other departments to the Registered Nurse. Responds to questions from patient, families and significant others in a prompt, courteous, positive manner, referring them to appropriate personnel if necessary.
    • Uses safety measures for patient and self in accordance with protocol. Assists unit staff in preventing patients from climbing out of bed by providing diversion activities, such as use of "Busy Blanket" or watching TV. Notifies unit staff if verbal reminders and diversion are unsuccessful in distracting patient.
