Job Summary

Provides professional nursing care to patients in an ambulatory OB/GYN setting. Assists physicians(s) in all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and provides education, counseling and support of patients.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Training

Valid RN license in the State of Maryland. 

Experience

1 year OB/GYN nursing experience, preferably in an outpatient setting or related specialty.

License/Certification/Registration

Valid RN license in the State of Maryland.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Assesses the educational needs of patients related to their condition and provides teaching and support accordingly. Schedules and provides prenatal and other patient teaching.

Assists physician(s) with data collection.

Assists physician(s) with invasive and noninvasive procedures and all pelvic examinations, for example, endometrial biopsies, postcoital exams, and colposcopy.

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.

Dispenses, monitors, orders, and administers medications in accordance with physician's plan of care.

Ensures that exam rooms and the utility room are fully stocked and cleaned.

Ensures that laboratory specimens are properly labeled, necessary paperwork is completed, and specimens are sent to the appropriate laboratory. Documents and files all laboratory results.

Maintains patient history and enters pertinent information in charts. Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams.

Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts. Performs other duties as assigned.

Prepares patients for physical examination and/or specimen collection.

Records services and diagnosis on patient's encounter form to facilitate appropriate billing.

Triages and documents patient phone calls.
