  • Job Summary
    • Serves as the initial contact to patients, family members, or visitors entering the hospital. Enhances the hospital experience for patients, families and visitors by performing public safety services, access control and guest relation functions that assure the highest standard of service.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Education/Training
      • High School graduation or equivalent.
    •  
    • Experience
      • 6 months of related security experience. In lieu of the related experience, an internal candidate who has one year of Medstar tenure may be considered.
    •  
    • License/Certification/Registration
      • Valid drivers license in the State of Maryland.
    •  
    • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
      • Verbal and written communication skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
  • Primary Duties and Responsibilities
    • Accesses computer terminal for patient information regarding admissions, transfers, and discharges. Prints an updated census as scheduled to provide patient information.
    • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
    • Controls the entrances to hospital campus, offering assistance and services as guests enter. Performs appropriate security screening to verify authorization to visit. May escort patients, visitors and associates to their requested designations.
    • May orient volunteers to staff the information desks located throughout the hospital.
    • Monitors security and appearance of lobbies, waiting areas, elevators, and entrances.
    • Observes and monitors conditions, objects, or persons which might require police action. Controls access to and inspects packages of those leaving buildings. Reports all safety, security, and law violations.
    • Operates an automated visitor access system, creates and prints visitor badges. Requests identification from patients and visitors.
    • Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate. Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
    • Prepares and submits reports and logs of all incidents, investigations, and activities. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.
    • Provides assistance for way-finding, parking, deliveries and other requested information for the hospital and MedStar affiliates.
    • Welcomes patients and visitors . Provides information and directions to locations throughout the hospital to patients and guests. Coordinates transportation services.
    • Assists in restraints under clinical supervision and direction.
