This position offers you the opportunity to work alongside other Physician Assistants and Hospitalists providing exceptional care to the in-patient units at MedStar Franklin Square.  Evening shifts available with a minimum of one shift per month (2pm - 10pm or 3pm - 11pm).    

Job Summary - Performs a variety of duties such as history and physicals as well as providing care to assigned patients. Assesses, diagnoses, documents findings. Writes medical orders and/or prescriptions. Makes clinical decisions relative to patient management through collaboration with physicians.
Minimum Qualifications
Education/Training - Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program accredited by ARC-PA (Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant). Bachelors degree; Masters degree preferred.
Experience - One year experience needed for PRN position.
License/Certification/Registration - NCCPA (National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants) certification. Current license with the Maryland Board of Physicians. Current BLS (Basic Life Support)/ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certifications.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Basic computer skills preferred.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicates any clinical change in patient status with attending physician.
  • Complies with billing requirements and expectations.
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Dictates discharge summaries as appropriate.
  • Documents legibly and accurately in progress notes.
  • Facilitates patient admission, including assessment, orders, medication reconciliation and discussion with attending physician.
  • Facilitates patient flow with attention to triage.
  • Facilitates placing patient in Observation Status including timely orders and follow up.
  • Performs assessment, treatment and documentation of urgent and emergent patient issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports department through interdisciplinary and staff meeting participation.
