Be on the forefront of this emerging neuroscience program with MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center.  This interventional and neuro-interventional program will be supported by a clinical staff of specialty trained interventional radiographers and nurses.  Working under the guidance of nationally and regionally renowned neurosurgeons, neuro-interventionists and vascular specialists, become a part of this start of the art program enhancing the quality of life for patients in and around the Baltimore area.


Job Summary


Assists interventional radiologist in the performance of complex diagnostic and therapeutic angiographic procedures.  Provides patient care as needed and documents medical procedures. Assists in providing efficient and effective patient care.


Minimum Qualifications


Associate's degree or 1 or more years formal training in an AMA approved program in Radiologic Technology is required.



4 or more months of job related experience in the performance of angiography and other complex radiological examinations.


Must have passed American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) examination and be ARRT certified.  Radiology Technologist license in the State of Maryland. CPR certification.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Verbal and written communication skills.  Basic computer skills preferred.  Job requires a moderate level of problem-solving. However, the problems are usually not very complex. Standard methods, guides, and procedures are generally available.  Ability to work independently; Work generally has standard procedures and instructions but the incumbent must organize work and set priorities.  Internal contacts necessary to effectively explain and interpret information for others inside the Hospital.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  2. Performs and/or assists in all angiographic and interventional imaging procedures as well as myelography, arthrography and venography.
  3. Prepares and positions patient and operates/monitors imaging devices during procedures. Utilizes immobilization devices and radiation protective measures during the operation of imaging equipment.
  4. Evaluates radiographs for technical accuracy and quality.  Assures that studies are properly identified and filed in PACS (Picture Archiving Communication Storage).
  5. Completes required quality control and quality assurance records, and summarizes services rendered for statistical reports.
  6. Verifies the procedure(s) performed as indicated by the physician for billing.
  7. Takes call on a rotating basis, for afterhours/weekend coverage.
  8. Utilizes physical assessment skills, monitoring devices (pulse, respiration, blood pressure, EKG), intravenous care and aseptic techniques in providing patient care.
  9. Ensures that supply levels in the procedure rooms are adequate, and notifies the individual responsible for ordering replenishment stock when appropriate.
  10. Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  11. Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.
