OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION: The Logistics Planner is responsible for planning, optimizing, and executing inbound and outbound shipments in support of multiple regional Tire Retread/Distribution Centers.


JOB SUMMARY: The Logistics Planner will perform various duties, including but not limited to, providing effective planning and coordination of freight for internal and external customers, including maximizing service and financial performance of inbound and outbound shipments. Additionally, the Logistics Planner serves as a liaison for the day to day tactical execution between distribution centers, internal and external carriers and customers.



  • Effectively manage the liabilities of the Transportation P&L in an effort to reduce operational costs without sacrificing customer service
  • Utilize Transportation Management System (TMS) to ensure maximum efficiency, while achieving the highest level of customer service for all internal and external customers
  • Autonomously develop, plan, and execute the day to day transportation operation
  • Monitor delivery performance and anticipate customer service problems, opportunities and risks
  • Ensure expedited shipments are monitored and processed in a timely manner
  • Load plan backhaul opportunities
  • Keep management well-informed of activities and potential issues and provide support to operations team members as needed
  • Assist in the identification and execution of process improvement initiatives
  • Schedule, route and monitor  inbound import and domestic deliveries into, and out of the distribution centers
  • Execute company policies, procedures and programs in a professional, effective and timely manner

  • Other duties assigned as needed



  •  Education:
    •       HS Diploma or equivalent
    •       Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain or equivalent experience
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of two years of experience in a logistics environment tendering loads, managing transport routing    schedules through an IT based model (TMS)
    • Dedicated fleet transportation or logistics experience preferred
    • Prior operational experience supporting distribution center operations a plus
    • SAP TM or WM experience a significant plus



  • Skills:
    •       Proficient in Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel knowledge (pivot tables, formulas, charts, etc.)
    •       Ability to learn and become a subject matter expert in transportation applications
    •       Strong customer relations background with all levels of internal and external customer engagement required
    •       Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    •       Ability to multi-task and prioritize sensitive situations in a fast-paced, highly dynamic environment
    •       Team player with time management skills, can-do attitude, sense of urgency and a strong work ethic
  • Typical Physical Demands:
    •       Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping
    •       Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds
    •       Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator
    •       Requires normal range of hearing and vision


      WORK SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:  Ability to work extended hours, including weekends, based on business needs


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:  No travel is expected for this position
