Position Summary:

The senior manager, R&D communications will manage the development and implementation of communications initiatives supporting Horizon's pipeline focused on developing medicines for rare, autoimmune and severe inflammatory disease. This role will contribute to efforts to evolve and expand a compelling scientific narrative in close collaboration with their colleagues, with clear messages and sharp proof points to help elevate our science, innovation and scientists.

Responsibilities include working closely with the senior director, R&D communications - as well as across functions (e.g. regulatory, investor relations, medical, business development) - to develop and execute communications plans and strategies. In addition, this role will manage planning and preparing internal and external communications of key scientific and clinical data.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement communications strategies that support R&D business objectives and initiatives in collaboration with the clinical development, translational science and research teams.
  • Work with senior R&D leadership to expand scientific communications strategic thinking and identify growth opportunities.
  • Identify external opportunities to amplify the company's R&D strategy/approach and key leaders.
  • Lead the development of content related to clinical development programs and scientific milestones , including messaging and materials (FAQs, press releases, presentations, etc.) for various audiences, internally and externally.
  • Manage the development of multimedia content elevating R&D activities; direct agency development of content and manage multiple layers of review and distribution.
  • Collaborate with corporate communications team to integrate R&D-related initiatives into corporate communications efforts such as:
    • Employee communications, including employee intranet site
    • External communications, including HorizonTherapeutics.com and several social media platforms


Qualifications and Skills Required :
  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD) in a biological science or related field required.
  • 6-8 years of experience in a pharma/healthcare scientific communications role.
  • Deep understanding of the drug development process and prior experience in the biopharmaceutical industry (either public relations agency or in-house biotechnology or pharmaceutical company) strongly preferred .
  • Demonstrated pharma/healthcare content development strategy and execution experience.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, establishing and maintaining effective and efficient channels of communication with new media and opinion leaders.
  • Experience managing contractors and external agencies.
  • Self-motivated with outstanding interpersonal, team, and collaboration skills.
  • Innovative thinker with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action-oriented plans and developing/implementing new creative initiatives.
  • Proven ability to translate complex data into consumer-facing messages and materials.
  • Proven written and verbal communication skills aimed at executives and a variety of audiences.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Requires approximately 20% travel, including some overnight commitments.
