Position Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal support on a wide range of Horizon's clinical trial and research and development activities. While the principal focus of the role will be to support clinical trial and research & development contracting activities, the successful candidate will also support other matters relating to Horizon's business as may be requested (which may include trade, managed care and other commercial contracting activities) and ideally would have experience in other areas such as general commercial and data privacy related issues.

Responsibilities:

The principal scope of this position relates to providig legal support on a wide range of of Horizon's clinical trial and research and development activities. The successful candidate will partner with leaders in Horizon's clinical and R&D organizations to ensure that contracting needs are met and handled in a manner that is consistent with company requirements, applicable regulations, and good business practices. The responsibilities for this position will be broad, and will include the provision of legal support on a range of matters encompassing, but not limited to, the following:

  • Clinical trial and research and development contracting, including clinical operations documents such as informed consent forms, letters of indemnity, powers of attorney, clinical trial agreements, sponsored research agreements, investigator iniatiated trial agreements, and other related contracts and documents.
  • Counseling on clinical and research and development-related issues.
  • Managing various contracting responsibilities, including drafting, negotiation, management as well as oversight of contracts within Horizon's contract mangagment enterprise tool.
  • Privacy.
  • Other matters that may be requested, which may include trade, managed care, marketing and other commercial contracting matters.
  • Ability to lead conversations and meetings with internal and external customers with respect to the negotiation and execution of contracts and related document review.


Qualifi c ations and S k ills Requ i re d :

The successful candidate should ideally possess the following skills/attributes:
  • Minimum of 4-6 years of relevant legal and transactional experience; experience in private practice and at a healthcare or life sciences company preferred;
  • Outstanding academic record preferred preferred.
  • Clinical and research and development (including clinical document review) contracting experience preferred.
  • Must possess good judgment in knowing when and how to escalate issues to the appropriate level and propose solutions.
  • Must have demonstrable commercial acumen and the ability to assume an increasingly demanding portfolio of work over time.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
