Staff Accountant – Cement (Hybrid)

Heidelberg Materials is seeking a qualified Staff Accountant II to join our team in Irving, Texas.

The Staff Accountant II (Hybrid) role is based in Irving Texas and reports directly to the Head of Performance Reporting and Digitalization, Global CCA.

What you’ll get to do

  • Participate in accurate and timely closing of the General Ledger monthly, including preparation of accruals, amortizations, and other adjusting journal entries
  • Complete balance sheet account analyses and reconciliations monthly, including cash bank accounts
  • Review and analyse financial statements for assigned business units
  • Prepare and distribute reports and provide analysis/support as needed.
  • Perform accounting for inventory including analysis of standard versus actual cost variances and physical inventory variances
  • Identify process improvement opportunities with assigned areas of responsibility
  • Participate in department-wide special projects as needed
  • Assist with providing analysis and support for internal and external audits
  • Respond to questions, resolve accounting-related issues, and communicate effectively with operations and other functional areas
  • Work closely with other functions within the SSC groups, Corporate, region business managers, and local operations to administer standard business processes
  • Deliver results individually and as a key team member in a fast paced, high-performance culture

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of experience preferred
  • Understanding of accounting fundamentals and principles (IFRS and GAAP)
  • A proven track record in meeting deadlines, and working collaboratively as part of a team are essential
  • Critical thinking and strong analytical skills
  • Solid Excel skills
  • Experience in large ERP environments like SAP, Oracle, or JDE
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills with attention to details

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • SAP and Blackline experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to be adapt and manage several assignments/projects at a time
  • Demonstrated drive and initiative
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills
