POSITION SUMMARY\:To be fully engaged in providing No Harm/Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Stewardship by performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities, in the operating room under the direction of an RNPRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES\:Engagement\: Associate supports engagement through adherence to the Health First I CARE values.Quality/No Harm\: Perform a variety of duties in an operating room, observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations. Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures. Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment. Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy. Assist with precepting new technical personnel. Participates in recording data on OR records. Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient. Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies needed in an operative procedure. Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills checklist. Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to changes in room or duty assignments. Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.Customer Experience\: Participates in 1 performance improvement activities to improve department, patient or physician satisfaction.Stewardship\: Accomplishes turnover in a timely manner, specific to facility by assisting circulator with cleaning and organization of supplies.Qualification:
Graduate of program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College or School for Surgical Technology.)
Must hold and maintain AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date.
5 year’s experience, as a Surgical Technologist preferred.
Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.
Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.
Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push or ambulate patients/equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift
Potential for exposure to bio-hazardous waste, MSDS substances and known or unknown diseases.
Must be able to work under stressful situations
Must be able to place continuous concentration on an activity
Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
Must have ability to respond appropriately to life threatening situations.
COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT/SKILLS CHECKLIST\:
Must meet the Surgical Technologist competency assessment/skills checklist requirement within 3 months of employment and annually.
