 POSITION SUMMARY\:To be fully engaged in providing No Harm/Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Stewardship by performing a variety of technical activities related to patient care, as well as support activities, in the operating room under the direction of an RNPRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES\:Engagement\: Associate supports engagement through adherence to the Health First I CARE values.Quality/No Harm\: Perform a variety of duties in an operating room, observing proper techniques to include preparing rooms with appropriate instruments, sutures, supplies and equipment; open sterile supplies and arrange sterile setups for operations. Creates, maintains, and terminates sterile field for surgical procedures. Properly handles and cares for all instruments and equipment. Checks materials and equipment for proper functioning and adequacy; reports faulty equipment and instruments per policy. Assist with precepting new technical personnel. Participates in recording data on OR records. Cooperates with the nurse in the individualized plan of care for each patient. Anticipates needs of surgeon and surgical assistants in the operating room, passing instruments, sutures, sponges and supplies needed in an operative procedure. Demonstrates an ability to perform all duties required of a Surgical Technologist in accordance with established procedures and completion of skills checklist. Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to changes in room or duty assignments. Attends in-services and mandatory meetings.Customer Experience\: Participates in 1 performance improvement activities to improve department, patient or physician satisfaction.Stewardship\: Accomplishes turnover in a timely manner, specific to facility by assisting circulator with cleaning and organization of supplies.



 Graduate of program for Surgical Technologist (Military, Community College or School for Surgical Technology.)

 Must hold and maintain AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date.

 5 year’s experience, as a Surgical Technologist preferred.

 Certification preferred

 Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English language.


 Must have visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks.

 Must be able to lift, turn, pull, push or ambulate patients/equipment up to 90% of the assigned shift.

 Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted up to 33% of the assigned shift

 Must be able to stand, walk, bend, and stoop up to 90% of assigned shift

 Potential for exposure to bio-hazardous waste, MSDS substances and known or unknown diseases.


 Must be able to work under stressful situations

 Must be able to place continuous concentration on an activity

 Must be able to understand and follow written and verbal instructions

 Must have ability to respond appropriately to life threatening situations.


 Must meet the Surgical Technologist competency assessment/skills checklist requirement within 3 months of employment and annually.
