POSITION SUMMARY\:   To be fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Experience, and Stewardship by\:  provide pulmonary function testing to our patients in a professional, confidential, timely, and caring manner PRIMARYACCOUNTABILITIES\:  Quality/No Harm\:  Appropriately identifies patients, reviews medical history and any prior test results.  Ensures patient is comfortable for the test.  Ensure equipment is maintained in working order at all times.  Contacts biomed for any  noted equipment concerns.     Perform pulmonary-function, lung-capacity, diffusion capacity and blood and oxygen tests   to gather data for use by the physician in diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary disorders.  Appropriately documents the results of the test being performed   Analyzes the test results to ensure they have all required data for physician interpretation.  Produce and complete all paperwork and computer entries needed to finalize each task.  Performs related duties as assigned and willingness to learn new skills and continue education throughout job course.  Customer Experience\:   Confers with patients in treatment room to thoroughly explain test procedures.  Monitors patients' comfort and safety during tests, alerting physician to abnormalities  and changes in patient responses.  Patients will be prepared for test in a fashion as to ensure patient dignity and privacy.   Displays excellent customer service skills.  Stewardship\:    Ensures patients are scheduled efficiently, using all available resources  Ensures the testing rooms as stocked in a cost-effective manner.  Organizes work, set priorities, and maintain equipment and supplies. 


QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED\:  Ability to work independently on all pulmonary testing modalities.  Ability to deal effectively and educate patients, work cohesively and professionally  with all health team members.  High school graduate or equivalent.  Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT or RPFT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with a minimum of 2 years of experience.  2 years PFT experience. Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist  (CPFT or RPFT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT).   Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.   Must hold current AHA BLS Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date  and maintain.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   Ability to speak effectively with patients  Basic computer, typing, or keyboard skills.  PHYSICAL DEMANDS\:  Must be able to stand, walk, bend and stoop for up to 8 hours, generally with 2-3  short breaks.  Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform clinical tasks  Ability to lift up to 10 pounds unassisted, 2-3 times per hour  Ability to bend and stoop as patient care requires  MENTAL DEMANDS\:  Ability to work independently   Ability to monitor pulmonary function tests in process and respond with appropriate interventions to ensure patient safety in accordance with established policies  Ability to respond appropriately to life threatening situations, not related to specific  respiratory events.  Ability to generate a report that accurately and concisely summarizes the patient's  pulmonary function test results  Ability to assess, interpret data, and educate patients and families of various ages  and levels of understanding.  Ability to assist with and implement training program for newly hired technicians/technologists.
