Hospital Division Director - Heart and Vascular Services Operations

About the Job


The Director of Heart & Vascular Services will oversee hospital operations of key heart and vascular departments across the IDN. These departments include the cardiac catheterization laboratory, specials, prep and recovery, echo/vascular, radiology nursing and vascular access team. Department responsibility may change based on the strategic needs of the service line. The Director of Heart & Vascular Services is fully engaged in providing Uncompromised Safety, Superior Quality, Memorable Customer Experiences, and Financial Stewardship. The Director of Heart & Vascular Services reports to the operational executive for the service line. This position is a fully onsite role. 

Primary Accountabilities\: 

  • Responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating goals and action plans for heart and vascular services
  • Maintains a positive, open, and effective relationship with the Medical Staff, Hospital Management team and all levels of personnel
  • Maintains technical expertise and continually develops leadership skills through ongoing education and training 
  • Disseminates best practice information obtained from across Health First and from external resources
  • Recognizes rewards and celebrates success
  • Ensures a high level of quality patient care and overall customer experience through the Quality Management and Performance Improvement Plan
  • Oversees and manages the development of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the necessary regulatory agencies including AHCA, The Joint Commission, etc.
  • Supports hospital, and heart and vascular services leadership in the recruitment and development of qualified and competent staff needed to provide quality care and service
  • Monitors and trends the customer experience and works with teams to identify opportunities to provide exceptional service
  • Exhibits a visible presence in assigned areas interacting with associates, patients, and physicians
  • Represents Health First as appropriate in its relationships with major customers, suppliers, competitors, government agencies, professional societies, and similar groups
  • Accountable for practicing fiscal responsibility by developing and assisting in the planning of realistic annual operating and capital budgets, conserving resources, and monitoring expenditures to ensure they remain within budgeted parameters
  • Participates in the implementation of the heart and vascular services strategic plan, and short and long-term objectives to ensure continued growth and provide necessary services to the community as approved by the senior leadership
  • Engages other leaders, managed care, supply chain and other stakeholders to plan for emerging trends in terms of clinical protocols, technology, reimbursement, medical management and supply utilization
  • The Director will provide input and recommendations regarding the expansion or addition of heart and vascular services, gaps in services, equipment, procedures or practices that will build upon or improve operational or clinical efficiency, increase the quality of patient care, and reduce expenditure.

Minimum Qualifications\: 

  • Education\: Master’s Degree in Business or Healthcare Administration or related
  • Work Experience\: At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in cardiovascular services in a similar-sized system highly preferred


  • Demonstrated success in engagement, quality performance, customer experience and stewardship in both growth and operations
  • Excellent oral and written communication including presentation and public relations skills 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of associates and executive leadership 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to delegate, educate and mentor
  • Excellent organizational skills with ability to continually assess and prioritize accordingly
