Job Summary and Qualifications
The Director of Cardiovascular Services provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for a comprehensive cardiovascular program that includes four procedural labs delivering TAVR, electrophysiology (EP), interventional cardiology, and diagnostic cardiology services. The Director is accountable for clinical quality, patient safety, operational efficiency, physician engagement, financial performance, regulatory compliance, and program growth across the cardiovascular continuum of care.
This role partners closely with cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, hospital leadership, and ancillary departments to ensure delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centered cardiovascular care aligned with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Scope of Services
The Director oversees all cardiovascular procedural and diagnostic services, including but not limited to:
- Cardiac Catheterization Labs (Interventional & Diagnostic)
- Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) Program
- Electrophysiology (EP) Lab (ablations, device implants, mapping)
- Structural Heart Procedures
- Pacemaker/ICD implant services
- Cardiology recovery and pre‑/post‑procedure care
- Cardiovascular imaging and diagnostics (as applicable)
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Provide leadership for four cardiovascular labs, ensuring safe, efficient, and high‑quality operations.
- Develop and execute short‑ and long‑term strategic plans to support growth in TAVR, EP, and interventional cardiology services.
- Evaluate and improve patient throughput, room utilization, staffing models, and scheduling efficiency.
- Lead service line expansion initiatives, new technology adoption, and program development.
Clinical Quality & Patient Safety
- Ensure excellence in clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and adherence to evidence‑based practices.
- Oversee compliance with CMS, Joint Commission, ACC, and other regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Partner with quality and physician leadership to monitor and improve key performance indicators (KPIs), including outcomes, complications, and infection prevention.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Physician & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiac surgeons, and anesthesia teams.
- Serve as an operational liaison between physicians and hospital leadership.
- Support physician engagement, onboarding, and procedural optimization.
Financial & Resource Management
- Develop and manage departmental operating and capital budgets.
- Analyze financial performance, including volume trends, case mix, supply costs, and labor productivity.
- Lead cost‑containment initiatives while maintaining clinical quality and patient outcomes.
- Collaborate on capital planning for new equipment, technology, and facility upgrades.
Staff Leadership & Development
- Directly or indirectly manage nursing, technologists, and support staff across cardiovascular labs.
- Ensure appropriate staffing levels, competencies, and coverage.
- Recruit, retain, and develop high‑performing cardiovascular teams.
- Support professional development, certifications, and succession planning.
Regulatory, Compliance & Accreditation
- Ensure adherence to state, federal, and accreditation standards.
- Lead audits, surveys, and readiness for regulatory inspections.
- Maintain policies, procedures, and documentation in alignment with best practices and regulatory expectations.
