Job Description:

Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine and complex histologic techniques to be examined under a microscope by a pathologist. The histologic techniques include the following: fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy, and staining (H&E and Special Stains) of human tissue for evaluation.   This includes complex histologic techniques such as enzyme histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, in-situ hybridization, cryotomy, immunofluorescence, and tissue microarray. 

 

  • High School diploma or equivalency AND Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last five years. The education received from a NAACLS accredited HT program is acceptable for a period of five years from the date of completion of that program. Ability to comply with OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements by following established procedures in order to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet accreditation standards.
  • Ability to be flexible as required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling.
  • Knowledgeable in the areas of pathology, management, education, and regulations that impact the field of histotechnology.
