Position Summary

The Registered Nurse (RN) assigned to the Ventilator Unit is responsible for delivering skilled nursing care to residents requiring mechanical ventilation, tracheostomy management, and advanced respiratory support. The RN ensures the highest standards of care while maintaining compliance with facility policies and state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert care to residents on ventilators and with tracheostomies.

  • Monitor ventilator settings, oxygen levels, and respiratory status; respond promptly to alarms and changes in condition.

  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.

  • Collaborate with respiratory therapists, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.

  • Document all assessments, interventions, and care in accordance with regulatory standards.

  • Participate in care planning, infection control, and quality assurance activities.

  • Educate residents and families on respiratory care and overall health management.

Qualifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of New York (required).

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in ventilator and tracheostomy care (required).

  • Prior experience in long-term care or sub-acute rehab strongly preferred.

  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (required).

  • Strong clinical assessment, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
