Pay: $23–$30 per hour

Job Description as a Behavioral Direct Support Professional (DSP)

We are hiring experienced Behavioral Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) through the NJ Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD).

This role focuses on implementing a Behavior Support Plan (BSP) developed by a licensed behaviorist. DSPs in this role are not responsible for writing behavior plans — your role is to provide consistent, hands-on support while following a clearly defined plan and structure.

This position is ideal for DSPs who are confident, patient, reliable, and experienced working with behavioral needs.

What You’ll Do as a Behavioral Direct Support Professional (DSP)

  • Implement an established Behavior Support Plan (BSP) under clinical supervision

  • Provide 1:1 support in home and community settings

  • Use proactive behavioral strategies and de-escalation techniques

  • Support daily living skills, routines, and community engagement

  • Accurately complete service notes and required documentation

  • Communicate observations and concerns to supervisors and clinicians

  • Follow ISP goals, BSP guidelines, and NJ DDD requirements

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and respectful environment

  • DSPs with prior experience supporting individuals with behavioral needs

  • Individuals comfortable following structured plans and routines

  • Reliable, consistent, and professional caregivers

  • Strong communication and documentation skills

  • Ability to remain calm and patient in challenging situations

Qualifications to be a Behavioral Direct Support Professional (DSP)

  • Prior DSP or caregiving experience required

  • Behavioral experience strongly preferred

  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (if required by case)

  • Eligible to work in the U.S.

  • Ability to pass background checks and required DDD clearances
