Overview


The RN Unit Manager is responsible for ensuring implementation of plans of care that are comprehensive and patient specific in collaboration with the ADNS/ CNO. This position will be responsible for ensuring that applicable and expected documentations are in place but are not limited to assessments, medication reconciliation and care plans. He/ she will also collaborate with medical and nursing leadership to promote institutional standards of care and monitor relevant data and benchmarks.


Responsibilities


  • Work collaboratively with other Unit Manager/s or Program Directors to ensure delivery of quality care to each patient on assigned unit/s beyond regular business hours.
  • Informs CNO and/or Assistant Director of Nursing of all pertinent changes in residents and special problems related to nursing care of the residents on a daily basis.
  • Tours the nursing units to ascertain the condition and needs of the residents on a daily basis
  • Observes nursing care of the residents to insure that orders are carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physician's instructions
  • Assists in incident investigations; insures that reports are complete and meaningful, placing particular emphasis on determination of cause and preventative measures.
  • Takes the lead in ensuring that admission is completed per protocol.
  • May accompany physicians on rounds, assist him/her as necessary, receives instructions and notes on resident care requirement's.
  • Problem-solves with the IDT team to promote patient services satisfaction

May render nursing care, administer medication and perform treatments.

  • Follow up on daily concerns that may have not been addressed during regular business hours.
  • Periodically reviews resident care plans with staff nurses.
  • Provides for consultations with residents and/or families at times convenient for all parties to discuss problems, nursing care of residents and other relevant matters.
  • Serves as liaison between day and evening Nursing Staff and other departments.
  • Assists in planning, developing, organizing and implementing departmental goals and objectives.
  • Exhibits creatively and initiative in pursing organizational and departmental growth and development.
  • Assists in developing and/or revising departments policies.
  • Submits appropriate reports as required.
  • Communicates effectively on all levels both orally and writing.
  • Maintains interdepartmental cooperation.
  • Insures all code and regulatory requirements are met, as appropriate.

Qualifications


  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Education Desired

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Three years experience.

Experience Desired

  • One to Three years experience preferably in both geriatric and Sub acute setting.
