Overview


To meet the emotional, spiritual and social needs of all residents by planning, directing and participating in a program of diversified activities.


Responsibilities


Essential Functions






Plans and schedules programs from the community, residents, families, friends and Mary Manning Walsh Home personnel.









Participates in Department Head meetings and plan of care meetings.









Assumes responsibility for the initial resident interviews and maintenance of progress notes.









Incorporates the resident's program into the total care following consultation with other involved disciplines.









Provides opportunities for residents who participate in programs to assist in planning of such programs.









Activities Coordination: Arranges and coordinates a variety of meaningful programs which meet the cultural and ethnic back ground of residents. Provides various opportunities for residents which their physicians approval to pursue leisure activities seven days a week.









Orients , supervises and assigns volunteers to supplement and enhance effectiveness of programs. Plans community outings for resident which are safe or interest and assessable. Meets with families as necessary.









Assist with transportation of residents to programs within the facility. Transports residents to programs and community affairs outside the facility by facility vehicle or other appropriate transportation.









Coordinates resident council meetings. Responsible for public relations for certain events in the home (Senior Citizen Month, etc). Responsible for resident's and sisters voters registration and absentee ballots and voting for primary and general elections. Responsible for writing policy and procedures as it pertains to the working of the department.









Administrative: Plans, develops, organizes and implements departmental goals and objectives. Exhibits creativity and initiative in pursing organizational and departmental growth and development. Develops, revises and interprets departmental policies. Develops and controls budgeted expenses. Conduct's staff Meetings and meets with members of other departments to coordinate activities with other departments. Submits appropriate reports as required.









Communicates effectively on al levels both orally and in writing. Maintains interdepartmental cooperation. Analyzes , evaluates and solves inter and interdepartmental problems recommends solutions when necessary. Maintains quality control and assures quality assurance program;s effectiveness. Insures all code and regulatory requirements are met . Establishes standard and work procedures for activities staff in accordance with the established policies of the Home.









Supervisory : Assures adequate staffing levels for department. May interview , select , hire and terminate departmental personnel Plans work schedules and assigns hours and areas of work to insure adequate service with minimum overtime usage.









Directs and overseas work of employees, correct where substandard conditions exist. Evaluates employees as per Home's policy. Provides for the training and development of employees. Effectively counsel's employees as per Home's policy. Delegates appropriate responsibility to designated staff. Develops willingness of personnel to achieve goals and objectives.









Interpersonal Relations : Assists other employees where needed. Is responsible and cooperative with supervisor fellow employees, residents and families. Maintains friendly working atmosphere. Maintains Professional attitude. Maintains Professional appearance.









Organizational Responsibilities : Provides assistance with resident care where applicable. Promotes the organisation;s and departments image , philosophy and policies. Learns and follows organizational and departmental policies and procedures. Learns and follows assigned safety, security and fire procedures. Reports any accidents and dangerous situations immediately,. Maintains confidentially of organizational and resident information. Performs other related duties as assigned





Qualifications


Education Requirements






Baccalaureate degree









Attendance in related programs of continuing education (see 700.2(27)(i-viii) CRR of the State of NY 10 Health.






Experience Requirements








Two years of full time paid experience in an activities program






License Requirements








Verification of qualification by the New York State Department of Health









National therapeutic recreation certification









Current driver's license.






Skill Requirements








Judgment and problem solving required majority of time.
