AECOM is actively seeking highly motivated Control Room Operators in El Paso, Texas. Applicants will need to be professional, self-motivated, resourceful, and able to prioritize the successful execution of a wide range of information technology systems and traffic management project related tasks. The appropriately qualified applicant will need to clearly demonstrate their experience and knowledge of the regional freeway and arterial roadways and their degree of computer and communication (i.e., dispatch and customer service) systems literacy. Applicants will also need to confirm their willingness and availability to work in a 24/7/365 environment which may include weekend, night, and holiday shifts.
Control Room Operators, these positions are responsible for monitoring and reporting incidents on the region’s roadways, freeway and arterial. The primary responsibility of this position is to use intelligent transportation system devices to search for and verify incidents, communicate lane closures, and monitor congestion. Once the Operator has confirmed the information, respective first responder agencies or other control and command centers are notified along with the distribution of traveler information to motorists through various methods including electronic message signs, traveler information systems, and sharing of information with local media outlets.
Control Room Operators execute their responsibilities from a traffic management center (TMC), located in El Paso. The environment is a professional and fast paced, with a technological focus around a teamwork approach to optimizing roadway performance and safety.
Other responsibilities include:
Monitoring events and equipment status with closed circuit TV cameras (CCTV), incident response crews and TMC Lonestar software.
Managing and logging events and congestion using the TMC software and roadway detection devices, both electronic and in the field (e.g., speed sensors, CCTV cameras and Dynamic Message signs (DMS).
Coordinating and dispatching incident response crews to incidents in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
Detecting, confirming and tracking equipment faults affecting control room equipment (e.g., central system, computers, CCTV monitors, and large screen display units) and system field equipment (e.g., CCTV, VDS, DMS).
Coordinating with local TxDOT stakeholders on all control room activities while communicating essential and timely incident data with external clients at local, international, and other TxDOT operations (i.e., Ciudad Juarez, El Paso County, and Customers and Border Patrol (CBP)
Informing first responders of traffic related events involving injury and assisting with coordination of lane closures and diversion routes.
Coordinating incidents (to include signal system malfunctions) with local multiplicity such as City of El Paso when needed.

Significant periods of sitting, CCTV monitor viewing, and data entry
Heavy telephone and computer usage
Closely supervised shift schedule; monitored performance with routine evaluation
High School Education
Driver’s license in good standing
Submit to drug screening
Bilingual, fluent, English and Spanish
Associates Degree
Prior experience working in a fast paced, technology infused, environment
