AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services-Americas legal department is actively seeking a junior to mid-level counsel with experience in the areas of federal government contracts and construction for immediate employment. The successful candidate will provide legal assistance to AECOM’s buildings and places, environment, transportation, water, construction and program management business lines when pursuing and performing a federal contract. This position will offer flexibility for hybrid remote work schedules.

AECOM’s Design and Consulting Services-Americas legal department is actively seeking a junior to mid-level counsel with experience in the areas of federal government contracts and construction for immediate employment. The successful candidate will provide legal assistance to AECOM’s buildings and places, environment, transportation, water, construction and program management business lines when pursuing and performing a federal contract. This position will offer flexibility for hybrid remote work schedules.
Responsibilities of this position will include the following:
- Participating in and supporting business development activities including cross-functional review of RFQ/RFP requirements for professional and other services; contract reviews; collaboration with senior managers in the Legal Department on non-standard contract terms; identification of risk and opportunity; and development of risk mitigation plans.
- Negotiating and/or advising business line leaders in connection with contractual issues in master service agreements/indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity contracts, joint venture agreements, subcontracts, purchase orders, site access agreements, third-party reliance letters, and other contract documents, including terms and conditions related to professional standard of care, indemnities, bonds, guarantees and warranties, delays and liquidated damages, insurance, and interactions with third parties.
- Communicating with clients, governmental authorities, and other stakeholders.
- Providing ongoing support to AECOM business lines in connection with federal procurements in a team environment to help evaluate and resolve complex business issues and set appropriate strategies relating to contract negotiation and claims resolution.
- Supporting implementation of and team adherence to sound contract management and risk assessment policies.
- Multi-tasking on a large number of various contract issues, claims, litigation, and general advice requests.
- Conducting training across different functional areas on contract terms and conditions, corporate policies, and risk mitigation.
- Preparing of reports, memoranda, correspondence, and other documents, as necessary.
- Working collaboratively with diverse group of professionals, including the company’s executives, attorneys, risk and insurance managers, engineers, scientists, and contracts and procurement staff, as well as the ability to work with attorneys for external clients and subcontractors.
- Using online databases to document work and maintain updates.
- Managing claims and litigation and directing and overseeing the work of outside counsel.
- Supporting the legal department’s goals of diversity, equity and inclusion amongst the legal department, the company, and outside vendors.
- Practical team player with the ability to professionally collaborate in a results-oriented environment.
- Transactional experience with the proven ability to lead negotiations.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, drafting, negotiation, and written/verbal communication skills.

Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS plus at least 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school
- Experience as a practicing attorney supporting architecture, engineering and related professional services, and/or as construction services, including experience drafting and negotiating supporting agreements and managing claims and litigation.
- Admission to the bar in any state or the District of Columbia
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience participating in and supporting business development activities including cross-functional review of RFQ/RFP requirements for professional and other services involving environmental, health, and safety; contract reviews; collaboration with senior managers in the Legal Department on non-standard contract terms; identification of risk and opportunity; and development of risk mitigation plans.
- At least 2 years of federal government contract law experience
- Working knowledge of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS)
- Legal experience with architect/engineer professional liability matters.
- Well-developed communications skills; ability to clearly and concisely express legal issues and analysis to management, clients, government authorities and other stakeholders.
- Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently and in groups.
- Flexibility to adjust and thrive in an environment with changing requirements, schedules, and priorities.
- Excellent writing, presentation, and meeting facilitation skills
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Due to the nature of the work, US Citizenship is required
