Job Summary
AECOM is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to be based in our Arlington, VA office. This position also offers the possibility of working in a remote setting.

Job Description / Responsibilities
As part of a multi-disciplinary project team, the selected candidate will produce and direct the structural design for commercial, institutional and government building facilities. Under the leadership of the structural department manager the Senior Structural Engineer will:
  • perform and oversee engineering tasks for the analysis and design of structural building systems
  • Create project workplans for each design phase
  • Explore new approaches to address and solve design challenges
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, details, and specifications for a variety of materials, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, masonry, and wood
  • Organize and maintain project-related documents and files
  • Conduct technical quality reviews; check and identify discrepancies in computed results
  • Perform construction administration duties, including construction site visits
  • Provide guidance and direction to entry level engineers and technicians
  • Conduct field investigations of existing building structures and prepare written reports
  • Interact with clients and contractors in professional manner
  • Manage multiple projects on a daily basis
  • Perform assignments in accordance with agreed upon project budgets and schedules
  • Assist department manager in responding to requests for proposal and fee development

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Engineering or related field plus 6 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • U.S. citizenship is required
Preferred Qualifications
  • 8 years of relevant work experience in the design of public and private sector projects
  • Keen interest in the built environment
  • Ability to take responsibility for given assignments with limited supervision while proactively implementing standard practices and developing new procedures
  • Desire to explore and address complex engineering and architectural issues
  • Experience in using, interpreting, and applying building codes and standards including IBC, IEBC, ASCE 7, ASCE 41, ACI 318, AISC 360, and AISC 341
  • Proficiency in using computer software to produce structural engineering calculations, spreadsheets, and technical reports
  • Broad experience with various software packages including RAM, SAP, SAFE, and ETABS for the analysis and design of building structures
  • Ability to translate analytical results into practical structural engineering solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
