AECOM have an exciting opportunity for a senior SH&E Advisor to join our award-winning Environment & Ground Engineering SH&E Team. Supporting the Business Unit SH&E Lead the SH&E Advisor will support a multiple projects, both on and off of site. AECOM have a large pipeline of projects based through the midlands and the north, some of which have potential durations of up to 10 years. As we are National team this position can be based at any of our main office locations with a preference being to Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham areas due to large client projects in these areas.
The Senior SH&E Advisor shall work under the direction of the SH&E Manager (Business Unit SH&E Lead) and in turn the SH&E Director, delivering AECOM’s SH&E standards across their undertakings. The Senior SH&E Advisor shall be able to implement SH&E on a large or multiple small projects unaided and report project performance to line managers, clients and the wider business. In addition to project focused work, the Senior SH&E Advisor will be responsible for supporting, overseeing and reporting on business units / practice areas, promoting and improving SH&E compliance and culture.

As Senior SHE Advisor your role and responsibilities shall consist of, but not be limited to:
- Be a Safety Champion - Be a visible champion for health (including wellbeing), safety and environment, promoting continuous improvement and innovation whenever possible to promote and build a mature safety culture in line with AECOM policies, procedures and SH&E approach.
- SH&E Promotion - Assist in the development and implementation of AECOM behavioural safety campaigns, monitoring outcomes and reporting on the program effectiveness.
- Provide SH&E Advice, Support & Guidance – Provide competent health, safety and environmental advice, support, direction to AECOM staff and those we employ.
- One SH&E Team – Work with your colleagues and managers to be an effective team, respecting, supporting and working with each other to achieve the desired outcome.
- Management Systems Implementation – Work with the SH&E team to produce E&GE briefing, safety moments, etc. as required to improve E&GE SH&E procedures and processes implementation.
- Healthy Starts – Support the review and development of SH&E project requirements to enable them to be communicated at Healthy Starts, attending meetings to provide further advice and guidance.
- Operational Meetings – Involvement with work stream meetings to discuss upcoming works, standards to be delivered, CDM requirements to meet, any accident learnings that could affect the project.
- Issue of Monthly Reports – Issue monthly reports for all projects under your contract to communicate performance, highlight improvement areas and support the wider team with upward reporting.
- Wellbeing – Support employees wellbeing through AECOM initiatives and engagement.
- Mentor and Support Junior Staff – When working with junior SH&E and Project Delivery staff, provide mentoring, advice and support to develop them.
- Monthly Reporting – Produce monthly SH&E Reports for Business Units / Practice Areas, which they have oversight of.
- Any other duty which is required to ensure the safe delivery of AECOM’s undertaking, as instructed by Senior SH&E or Senior Organisational staff.
Project Focused Role Scope
- Reward & Recognition - Assess, review and award health and safety, wellbeing and environmental awards across projects under your control, promoting winners and their achievements.
- SH&E Meetings – Chair contractor SH&E meetings to promote SH&E engagement and promote safety culture, acting on key discussion points.
- Client Engagement – Support and assist the AECOM Project Team manage client expectations and issues, being the point of contact for the client on all SH&E related issues.
- Document Development - Working individually or as part of a team to develop organisational and project health, safety and environmental documentation to programme deadlines. This will include Construction Phase Plans, Inductions, Training Matrixes, etc. to support Project Teams.
- Review and Approve SH&E Documentation – Manage the contractor SH&E documentation review and approval process, ensuring compliance to project requirements / standards.
- SH&E Compliance Inspection / Audits – Complete inspections and audits to ensure health, safety and environmental quality standards are maintained, identifying, communicating and ensuring close non-conformances and improvements.
- Monitoring of SHE Performance – Monitor key performance indicators (KPI’s) to ensure recognition of good performance and prompt improvements in contractor SH&E performance, capturing results within a monthly report issued to the project team.
- Site Tours – Undertake daily site tours (when working on projects) to engage with workforce and ensure adherence to approved method of works.
- Accident Review, Management & Investigations – Investigate all incidents and accident, ensuring compliance to AECOM systems, investigation to the appropriate level, corrective action assignment and close out and preventative learning is imbedded into the business.
- SH&E Training/Awareness – Develop and deliver SH&E training with aim to improve core SH&E knowledge and targeted SH&E improvements across the project.
Minimum Requirements
- Worked at a similar level with similar responsibilities within a SH&E role for a large contractor / consultant.
- Experience of working on high profile construction projects within an industry leading health, safety and environmental management system, ideally including electrical / mechanical installations.
- Be a self-starter, driven individual, pro-active and committed, someone who motivates themselves and those around them to achieve high quality standards.
- Hold project management skills, with the ability to influence and engage with colleagues in a professional manner. Can articulate their requirements in clear and concise language.
- Flexibility to work weekends and evening when required

- Hold NEBOSH Construction Certificate or equivalent, plus occupational relevant qualifications. Hold First Aid at Work qualification.
