Job Summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Project Manager & Process Engineer to join our Drinking Water team based out of our Markham, Ontario (north of downtown Toronto) office.

To perform the following duties:

  • Manage water projects that include multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including structural, architectural, building mechanical, process mechanical, I&C, electrical, etc.
  • Lead water process design activities, including equipment sizing and selection, for water treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure
  • Review deliverables and understand the design of projects that involve multiple disciplines, including structural, architectural, HVAC mechanical, process mechanical, I&C, etc.
  • Prepare engineering design reports and memoranda, facility manuals, permitting and approvals applications, specification writing, Process Control Narrative development, cost estimating, etc.
  • Provide detailed calculations for water processes
  • Lead pilot and treatability studies
  • Lead commissioning activities
  • Provide clear and focused leadership on all project functions related to project management, project control, design and engineering management, and construction management to meet the Client’s and AECOM’s overall goals
  • Effectively maintain and develop a healthy Client relationship throughout the project execution and project close-out
  • Be a part of the team environment that supports AECOM’s Client focus, where employees meet the expectations, requirements, and agreements of our Clients.
  • Define project scope, goals, deliverables, quality and compliance requirements
  • Ensure compliance with AECOM’s and the Client’s quality policies and procedures
  • Develop detailed work breakdown structures and project execution plans from preliminary design to contract administration
  • Lead planning and preparation of accurate fee estimates to complete projects as well as baseline cash and financial performance indicators for future project control
  • Define project staffing and resource requirements in consultation with Department Managers
  • Manage planning and scheduling of project deliverables and the development of schedules for design and contract administration services
  • Manage a design team and develop an execution plan that allows work to be executed in logical sequences, monitors design activities, manages inter-discipline data flow and communication, and manages the introduction of design changes

  • Lead and support design meetings, workshops and decision making with Clients and interdisciplinary design team members
  • Ensure strict compliance with the Client’s and AECOM’s safety policies and procedures
  • Use a full range of available communication mediums to engage and solicit inputs from key stakeholders on each project
  • Proactively resolve performance, scope, cost and schedule issues
  • Constantly monitor and report on progress of the project to all stakeholders
  • Ensure accurate and timely preparation of engineering and financial status reports to our Clients
  • Consistently deliver on each project to achieve top-tier industry benchmarks for quality, overall project delivery and project financials
  • Provide mentoring of intermediate and junior staff
  • Prepare proposal capture plans and proposal documents
  • Provide business development including seeking out new opportunities and enhancing existing projects
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Environmental or Civil Engineering or relevant engineering field to water treatment, reservoirs and pumping stations
  • Must have 8+ years of Process Design, Project Management and Construction experience in water treatment plants, reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure
  • Must have executed water treatment projects from very beginning of pre-design until project close-out at end of Warranty period
  • Registered P.Eng. in Ontario or eligible within 12 months
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
  • 15+ years of Design, Project Management and Construction experience in large water treatment plants (> 100 MLD), reservoirs, pumping stations and related infrastructure
  • Water process, design and commissioning capabilities
  • General understanding of electrical, instrumentation and process controls
  • Certification such as PMP, CCE, PgMP, or related certifications
  • Proficient in common desktop packages, i.e., Word, Excel, MS Project, MS PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Motivated, team player, independent, organized with strong business acumen
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
