AECOM is seeking a Senior or Principal HVDC Engineer (dependant on experience) to join our Power Systems Engineering team in the UK and Ireland Transmission and Distribution department.
Location:
You can be based in any of our locations in the UK and Ireland which includes Birmingham, Bristol, Cardiff, Croydon, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, London Aldgate, Manchester, Newcastle, and St Albans. For the right candidate we will consider remote and hybrid-working arrangements.
Role Description:
The primary objective of this role is to support the development and delivery of HVDC and FACTS activities. You will be expected to provide technical expertise into ongoing projects, bids and proposals and to represent the company at client meetings as appropriate.

Role Description:

Typical HVDC and FACTS projects span across the entire spectrum of construction and operation including:
- Early-stage feasibility studies
- Optioneering Studies
- Specification preparation
- Technical Bid Review
- Design Assurance
- Design Review
- Site and FAT visits
- OEM Support Services
- Site pre commissioning and commissioning oversight supervision
- Technical and other Due Diligence including commercial, financial, risk, H&S etc.
- Technical expert services
- Some original design may also be involved.

- Extensive relevant experience on HVDC projects. Ideally seven to fifteen years of relevant experience.
- Professionally qualified in Electrical Engineering (CEng or working towards)
- Demonstrate a significant knowledge of HVDC technology along with a grounding in general power systems engineering
- Coordinate across project disciplines, external subcontractors and remote offices such that technical risks are identified and mitigated, and all statutory and regulatory requirements are met
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; experienced in creating and presenting technical reports; and responding to clients’ technical questions
- Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers and develop client relationships
- Understanding of Systems Engineering principles and requirements management
- Understanding of functional characteristics of power systems and interactions between AC and HVDC systems
- Able to work to deadlines under pressure whilst maintaining the safety, quality and engineering integrity of the solution
- Prepared take part in working groups such as CIGRE, IET and other professional bodies
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of HVDC scheme design and system studies.
