AECOM is actively seeking a highly-motivated Geotechnical Engineer or Geological Engineer with 10 to 15 years of experience for employment in the Salt Lake City, UT office. AECOM is searching for candidates with strong technical and interpersonal skills to be a client-focused, impactful and decisive role-model with the ability to work productively both independently and collaboratively. This position will involve working with geotechnical engineers and other engineers on a variety of highway, transit, pipeline, and infrastructure projects.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Provide geotechnical engineering and design support for dams, levees, tailing, highways, transit, mines, buildings, and other projects
Plan and mentor mid-level engineers in the planning of complex field explorations, review exploration logs, evaluate exploration data and review laboratory testing plans to ensure the testing plans meet project objectives.
Prepare engineering related calculations and develop drawings and figures. Mentor and guide mid-level and junior staff to use appropriate analyses methods and the selection of representative and appropriate engineering parameters.
Prepare engineering reports, plans, and specifications.
Work with multi-disciplinary teams to convey important geotechnical comments and understand the overall project objectives. Achieve the overall project objectives.
Perform assignments requiring application of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks.
Exercise judgment to develop design parameters and develop design details and select and adapt engineering design alternatives
Support business development activities with new and existing transportation, mining, power, dams, and municipal clients
Work within contract, schedule, and budget constraints
Provide training, guidance and supervision to mid-level and junior staff
Build trusting working relationships with clients and colleagues
Position for future projects with new and existing clients.
Prepare detailed scopes of work and fee estimates.
- BA/BS + 10 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency and/or education.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Utah.
• Master’s degree in Geotechnical engineering or related field.
• Working knowledge of the following programs: AutoCAD/Civil 3D, gINT, VisualBasic, SlopeW, SeepW, Slide, Settle3D, UTexas, WEAP.
• Experience on water, mining, and dams projects.
• 8 to 12 years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Experience writing geotechnical engineering proposals and managing engineering projects.
• Strong verbal communication and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency working with Excel and Word.
• Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of civil & geotechnical engineers, and geologists.
• Experience logging soil borings, performing geotechnical analyses, and writing geotechnical reports.
• Experience with complex design build and P3 transportation projects
