The successful candidate would be working on a number of active and forthcoming major water projects in a Design & Build working environment, providing technical design expertise to support a multi-disciplinary team including Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Geotechnical & Environmental, on a daily basis.

Key Roles & Responsibilities would include:
  • Provide technical expertise to support the Design Lead in all aspects of civil projects from design to implementation, ensuring compliance with UK bases water industry specifications. The candidate will be based in South Africa and deliver support remotely.
  • Feasibility assessment of engineering infrastructure
  • Prepare/ check design approach, calculations, drawings and technical reports with due cognisance to technical specification & standards and in accordance with Construction Design Management (CDM) and Health & Safety procedures that are reviewed by the Design Lead, to support the Design & Build of Major Project Water civil infrastructure
  • Supervise and mentor less experienced or junior engineers. Mentees will be both local (South Africa) and in remote locations (UK)
  • Liaise with construction delivery team & contribute to providing solutions to challenges that arise during the construction process
  • Client & third-party engagement/ liaison to obtain relevant technical consents as part of the engineering process
  • Keep up to date with industry best practice and where appropriate identify innovation/best practice for consideration
  • Comply with Client Quality Assurance procedures
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or relevant disciplines
  • Sound technical knowledge of industry standards and specifications and an understanding of CDM Regulations
  • Experience of liaison with other disciplines
  • Be able to work under pressure efficiently and independently, and a team player
Minimum Requirements
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise.
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high-quality cost-effective work by others.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables.
  • Performs quality control review of design calculations or drawings.
  • Prepares technical specification sections.
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering.
  • Registered as a professional engineer or working towards registration
