The role

We are looking for a Principal Consultant with strong consulting skills and a genuine interest in solving clients’ problems. The ideal candidate will have experience in areas such as the development of public policy, transport planning, appraisal, infrastructure planning and/or delivery, project management and the ability to work well with a diverse team of professionals.

In this role, you will assist clients with the planning, appraisal and delivery of some of the largest transport infrastructure projects currently in development across Ireland, alongside the development of national policy and provision of strategic advice. You will be required to perform analyses and develop client deliverables appropriate to the specific consulting engagement and facilitate the implementation of recommendations in one or more of the following areas:

  • Emerging Technology and its potential impact

The team:
The transportation consulting team in Dublin includes engineers, economists, transport planners, GIS and data specialists and public policy advisors. The team works closely with programme and project managers, design engineers, cost management specialists, environmental specialists and different engineering disciplines. You will work across all of these disciplines to coordinate and lead the development of wide-ranging and varied consultancy services.
Our clients in Ireland include Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII), National Transport Authority, the Department of Transport, Dublin Airport and Irish Rail and to whom we have provided consulting services for many years.

Job Responsibilities:
As an Associate Director within the Transport Consulting team, you will:
  • Have the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance to teach and develop junior staff
  • Work collaboratively and iteratively within multi-disciplinary design and consultancy teams
  • Establish strong working relationships with other internal teams, particularly within AECOM’s transportation division
  • Develop a team to meet your requirements
  • Represent AECOM while engaging directly will clients in the development of project deliverables
  • Lead the production of high-quality documents and reports
  • Produce thoughtful and engaging thought leadership to promote AECOM and develop capabilities
  • Identify and implement opportunities to improve team effectiveness and process improvements
  • Pursue continuous sector-specific learning and development
  • Identify and pursue new opportunities to collaborate and engage with clients to generate new business.

Minimum Requirements
We have set out some minimum requirements below however we welcome applicants with a keen interest in the transport sector and the behaviours and skills to deliver for our team.
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant analytical, planning or public policy subject, however, we also recognise the value of a range of wider qualifications and experience
  • You should have the ability to handle the project management of projects, including cost control and client liaison
  • Proven ability and/or strong understanding of analytical, data manipulation or statistical processes
  • You will have knowledge and experience in the transport industry and/or experience of working as a consultant
  • Excellent numeracy and communication skills and an ability to leverage these skills to solve complex problems and business challenges for clients
  • Passionate about solving problems and delivering high-quality consulting services for our clients
  • Self-motivated with an ability to work on initiative and liaise with clients independently
  • Experienced in managing, motivating and developing a project team
  • Willingness to challenge in a positive and engaging manner
  • Keen to work as part of a team and to develop and progress career development

Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree, Masters or MBA in a relevant discipline
  • Appropriate professional status (or working towards) with a membership of a relevant professional chartered institute, or eligible for membership of a relevant professional chartered institute.
