Job Summary
The AECOM Orange, California office has an immediate need for an experienced Principal Geotechnical Engineer to take on a leadership role in our geotechnical engineering practice. The candidate will have the opportunity to direct projects for a variety of facilities including dams, pipelines, tunnels, levees, bridges, and building structures, and coordinate with a broad range of other disciplines within AECOM.
The candidate should have a high level of technical expertise and experience in supervising and training staff in geotechnical investigations, analyses, reporting, and construction observation. Business development for existing and new clients will be an integral part of the position.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Geotechnical Experience on Water Resources and Transportation Projects.
- Plan and oversee field exploration/characterization and laboratory testing of soil and rock materials.
- Oversee teams performing slope stability and seepage analyses and designing slope stabilization measures for dams, spillways, and/or levees.
- Perform seismic stability and deformations analyses of dams; including earthquake ground motions, liquefaction potential, and earthquake-induced and fault-induced deformations.
- Evaluate the expected seismic performance of dams, levees, outlet pipes, probable maximum flood conditions.
- Supervise preparation of technical reports, independent dam safety inspections, and potential failure mode analyses.
- Project Management – tracking scope, schedule and budget.
- Business development for new and existing clients.
- Prepare engineering services proposals, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Prepare Project Work plans and Health and Safety Plans.
- Oversee and prepare engineering reports and documentation.
- Review engineering reports and documentation prepared by junior staff.
- Ensure the quality of project deliverables.
- Mentoring and technical development of junior staff.
- Perform Independent Technical Reviews.
- BA/BS Degree in engineering or related field of study
- 10 years or more of relevant experience
- Professional Engineer’s (PE) license
- Master’s degree or PhD in Civil Engineering
- Geotechnical California GE registration
- 15 years or more of experience
- Working knowledge of relevant building code provisions
- Strong commitment to ensuring safe project execution
- Local travel required
- Due to the nature of this work, qualified applicants who are offered a position may have to pass a pre-employment substance abuse test
- Experience working with local permitting jurisdictions
- OSHA 40 Hour Hazwoper Certification
