Our successful Belfast Water team have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Civil Engineer with strong analytical skills and experience in delivery of civil infrastructure projects. We are looking for a Chartered Civil Engineer with experience of the design and project management of civil infrastructure projects and leading a team. The role will provide the candidate opportunities to build on a successful team and further develop their career.

You will be supported and encouraged to maintain your CPD and embrace initiatives to help you further develop your own skills. AECOM fully supports individual’s requirements to develop and build their experience, professional qualifications and skill sets.

You will lead a team of Civil Engineers and Project Managers throughout the project design and delivery cycle, supporting various stages of civil infrastructure, water and wastewater utility projects including feasibility studies, reference designs, detailed designs and preparation of reports and technical specifications and construction project management. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary teams that could include structural engineers, geotechnical engineers, process engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers and environmentalists.

Role Duties:
  • Manage a portfolio of multiple civil infrastructure projects.
  • Consistently deliver profit margins planned.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary projects with a keen focus on risk mitigation for clients and AECOM alike.
  • Have decision-making authority and direct other Project Team members in recognising risk and uncertainty with plans to mitigate and eliminate such.
  • Supervise and direct Project Team members with multiple projects or programme of projects.
  • Gather and correlate engineering data using established and well-defined procedures, identifying any discrepancies in results.
  • Ensure CDM compliance throughout design and construction.
  • Contractually manage projects from bid stage through to completion.
  • Work on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving design calculations.
  • Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Strategic health, safety and environmental management and leadership to drive the highest standards.
  • Deliver Projects with the agreed time, cost & quality requirements.
  • Work closely with programming specialists to build delivery programmes and monitor progress.
  • Apply risk management techniques for projects.
  • Manage project teams and work with the management team to ensure availability of suitably skilled resources at all times.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and technical advice to support and supervise junior staff.
Minimum Requirements
  • Experience in leading the full cycle of project delivery from inception to completion.
  • Ability to liaise and engage with clients and key stakeholders.
  • Experience in technical checking and reviewing drawings and calculations.
  • Experience working in and/or managing elements of multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • Civil Engineering Degree.
Preferred Qualifications
  • MEng Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Experience in the development of contract preparation and administration using NEC and/or FIDIC forms of contract.
  • Knowledge and experience of Northern Ireland Water and Irish Water’s technical standards.
